Edge Hill University invites you to attend A Reading with Stuart Maconie on Thursday 6th October 2011, where the author, broadcaster and Edge Hill alumnus will return to his university to read excerpts of his new book, Hope and Glory - The Days that Made Britain to an audience on the Ormskirk Campus.   

In Hope and Glory Stuart Maconie goes in search of the places, people and events that have shaped modern Britain. Starting with the death of Queen Victoria, to the Battle of the Somme and the General Strike, and on to the docking of the Empire Windrush and Bobby Moore raising the Jules Rimet trophy, he chooses a defining moment in our nation's story from each decade of the last century and explores its legacy today.

Stuart Maconie is a best selling author, broadcaster and journalist and attended the former Edge Hill College in the early 80s, studying on an English and Social Science degree. Since graduating, has been deputy editor of NME, written three other books, including Cider with Roadies, Pies and Prejudice and Adventures on the High Teas. He currently co-presents BBC 6 Music's Radcliffe and Maconie Show and The Freak Zone, has columns in the Daily Mirror and Country Life and is the face of BBC North West's Inside Out.
