Vision Fest / RUCMA and Poetics Group of CUNY Grad Center presents:

"A Night of Jazz Poetry"

Live jazz poetry sets by Steve Dalachinsky and Frantic Turtle

Hank Williams, Christine Timm, and Corey Frost will play and discuss old records of Charlie Mingus, Amiri Baraka, Kenneth Patchen, Last Poets and more.

Steve Dalachinsky is a legendary New York downtown poet. He is active in the Free jazz scene. He has been writing poetry for many years and has worked with such musicians as William Parker, Susie Ibarra, Matthew Shipp, Roy Campbell, Daniel Carter, Sabir Mateen, Mat Maneri, Federico Ughi, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Rob Brown, Tim Barnes and Jim O'Rourke. He has appeared at most of the Vision Festivals, an Avant-jazz festival involving many of these musicians. He also appears often at the Knitting Factory, a unique live music club in Tribeca. He currently lives in Manhattan with his wife, painter and poet Yuko Otomo.

Frantic Turtle merges poetry, music, and performance into philosophically viral mixtures like existentialist dancehall, punk-prayer, and toasted jazz poetry. It's the over-fed language of the urban god-piece and jumpy grooves on the background to keep your ids dancing. See http://www.myspace.com/franticturtle
