WildRumpuS has announced that A Midsummer Night’s Dream Opening Night on Friday, 5 November is a special fundraising event for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Starlight delivers innovative programs designed to make children, living with serious illness or injury, happy and lift their spirits when they need it most.

“It’s wonderful that we have this opportunity to contribute to the happiness of children and we invite Sydney families to come along and be a part of the fundraiser evening,” said Director of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Anthony Harkin.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is playing at the Belvedere Amphitheatre in the fittingly whimsical Centennial Park every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout November for four consecutive weekends.

New Sydney-based theatre company, WildRumpuS is making their debut in quintessential Sydney-summer style with the open air production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream is perfect in Centennial Park, as there’s no need to imagine the woods or the night sky. They’re all around you. It’s immediate and visceral. We’re making a 400 year old play relevant, not with sets and costumes, but with a brilliant cast and a fresh approach. That’s why the writing’s so incredible, it allows you to do that. WildRumpuS is bringing Shakespeare back and that’s exciting!” continued Director of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Anthony Harkin.

Directed by Anthony Harkin, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies. The story follows the knotty love triangle between four young Athenian lovers on the eve of the enchanted Midsummer. The lovers take flight to the nearby forest in an attempt to solve their romantic woes but their relationships and love become even more muddled when the roguish forest sprites and a troupe of amateur actors become involved.

WildRumpuS is committed to promoting the Australian culture of theatrical participation and attendance in a unique environment, with performances that are bold, irreverent and of the highest professional standard. WildRumpuS founding members are Tony Cogin, James Evans, Anthony Harkin, Augusta Miller and Joseph Sullivan.

Working with an authority that takes its cultural vision seriously, WildRumpuS aims to enter into a long term commitment with Centennial Parklands in order that they may continue to bring exciting performances to the Sydney theatre scene for adults and children alike.
