Catch a rising star with the lyrical poetry of Meklit Hadero, soul diva / urban lyricist who also is a TED Fellow, former co-director of the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco, Yale graduate, and cultural activist promoting community involvement in the arts. Presented by The Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts at the Osher Marin JCC, this intimate, jazz-infused evening promises to inspire. With a four-piece band, Hadero, who has been described as mesmerizing, cosmopolitan, striking and worldly, will enchant with original music crafted from her Ethiopian heritage mixed with her modern take on classical jazz and blues. Influenced by Nina Simone, Hadero's luminious voice is redolent Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell and Nora Jones.

About Meklit Hadero
Born in Ethiopia and raised in the US, Meklit Hadero's musical explorations span genres and geographies. Meklit, a TED Fellow, has received commissions from the SF Foundation Fund For Artists for the ensemble Nefasha Ayer, from the Brava Theater to compose music for the play, Over the Mountain, and from the de Young Museum for a residency.
