A Hawk and a Hacksaw blend sounds of the former Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Romania and beyond, creating an ecstatic sound much like the village bands of old, with the communal aspect of folk tradition and musicianship always the strongest influences. Dark Dark Dark bring together New Orleans jazz, Americana and Eastern European influences with a warm voice and soaring piano, supported by spare clean drums, guitar, cascades of dirty distorted banjo and an accordion wandering through harmonies. The trio Pillars and Tongues make extended use of the human voice, violin, double bass, drums, bells and organs. Their music is distinctly Americana in both its affair with American forms and its refusal to adhere to them at all.

Presented in association with Crossroads Presents.
