“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” is a great mixture of slapstick, farce, and music that is filled with zinging one-liners with double meanings. It is the story of a slave, Pseudolus, who is trying to buy his freedom from his owner Hero who has fallen in love with a virgin, Phillia. Hero would give anything for Phillia, including Pseudolus’ freedom. Most of the play includes Pseudolus trying to arrange a way for Hero and Phillia to be together forever. He runs into many obstacles and challenges throughout his quest, resulting in a fun and exciting adventure.
