John Adams' 'A Flowering Tree' recounts the story of a young woman who magically morphs into a tree and undergoes myriad transformations in order to help her poor family... and, eventually, find true love. The libretto is based on a southern Indian folktale, drawing inspiration from Mozart's famed and final opera 'The Magic Flute'.
