TWO EXCITING NEW WORKS!
November 8- November 18, 2007

JOE: THE PERFECT MAN, directed by Adam Lazarus and co-created with Mump & Smoot’s Mike Kennard, is a non-stop rollercoaster ride through conformity, rebellion and MacBeth. A sell out hit show at the 2006 Edmonton and Vancouver fringe festivals, Joe: The Perfect Man recounts the story of a 60-year old man who has been fired from his teaching job and stumbles upon a Macbeth open call audition. With a plan to improve on the “flaws” of the original Macbeth text, Joe spars with an uncaring director as he staggers and swaggers through the audition of a lifetime.

Directed by Aleksandar Sasha Lukac, UNICORN HORNS tackles questions of love in the face of absurdity and deconstructs pop culture gender stereotypes. The androgynous wannabe actor, Quiche, wakes up one day to discover that his/her husband has turned into a flat man (as in paper-thin), a tragedy that occurs after Quiche’s 714th unsuccessful audition. As s/he recounts the story of their love affair and marriage, Quiche tries to convince the audience – and her/himself – that the flat man is real. UNICORN HORNS, winner of the 2006 York University President’s Prize for Playwriting, was originally presented at Nuit Blanche 2006 and has gone on to appear at the IDEA 2007 World Congress of Theatre in Hong Kong.
