ARMENIAN MARTYRS’ DAY COMMEMORATION ANNOUNCED

“Witnesses of Faith: The Voice of the Martyr and The Song of the Faithful” will be the theme of the 94th Annual Central California Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.
The Ecumenical Service and Civic Observance will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009, at the campus of Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church in Fresno. The campus is located at 3673 North First Street at Garland Avenue.
Former California State Senator Charles S. Poochigian, Esquire will serve as Moderator at the Observance. Admission is free and open to the public. A fellowship reception will be held in the Pilgrim Church Hall following the Service and Observance.
Martyrs’ Day commemorates the ethnic cleansing of 1.5 million Armenian residents of the Ottoman Empire between April 24, 1915 and 1923. U.S. Representative Adam Schiff (D-29/CA) has said, “The legacy of the Armenian Genocide is woven into the fabric of America.”
The Service and Observance are organized by the Armenian Interdenominational Committee of Central California in cooperation with Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church, Saint Paul Armenian Apostolic Church, and First Armenian Presbyterian Church.
