On June 9 and 10, 2012, The Boston Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC) will host its signature annual Blueprint Conference for Middle & High School Girls from the Metro Boston area.

The conference, a program of presentations, workshops and motivational exercises focusing on health and wellness (mental, emotional and physical), will be held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge.

Special invited guest Dr. Michelle Callahan, TV relationship expert and national media favorite, will be the event’s keynote speaker. Famed radio personality, Susan “Pebbles” Semedo from JAMN 94.5FM will open the conference welcoming the girls to the campus on Saturday morning. All women will speak on the importance of maintaining a healthy body and mind and celebrating the unique experiences and histories that shape a young girl’s life in today’s world.

Each workshop during the conference will be hosted by an exemplary woman from the Boston community, community leaders who work to make significant improvements in the lives of other women and young girls throughout the city.

Workshop leaders include Karla Romero of Mass Appeal International, Irvienne Goldson, Deputy Director ABCD Health Services, and Stephanie Everett, Chief of Staff from the Dept. of Transitional Assistance.

Before the conference concludes, the Boston Chapter of the NAASC and City Councilor-at-Large Ayanna Pressley will celebrate the inherent potential of the young women by presenting conference participants with citations from the City of Boston in recognition of their dedication to service.

“Throughout the city of Boston, young women and girls in every community are faced with incredible challenges that threaten their potential to be powerful women leaders”, said Ashley Jenkins, Boston Chapter President. “The conference is an exciting opportunity to celebrate and foster these girls’ ability to have an impact in their neighborhood and within themselves, empowering them to create change with confidence.”

The Boston Chapter of the NAASC’s Blueprint Conference takes place from 8am to 5pm on Saturday and 8am to 4pm on Sunday at Building 6 at MIT, 128 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, Massachusetts. For more information please email [email protected] or call Bianca Tabourn at 215-783-1674.
