Santa Cruz Mineral and Gem Society’s 59th annual “Treasures of the Earth” show will feature a variety of Jewels, Jade, Rocks and Fossils. Doors open at 10:00 am Saturday and Sunday, April 23th & 24th 2011, at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. Children under twelve, and Scouts in uniform, when accompanied by an adult will be admitted free. The $4.00 admission ticket will help support the Society’s activities including their scholarship and workshop programs.
There will be several activities for children of all ages. The fluorescent mineral room, a spectacular glow-in-the-dark black-light collection will again be on display. Continuing this year, family friendly attractions include rock painting, sand bottles, free rock give-away and the popular Treasure Wheel. This year in celebration of Easter we will have a wonderful Easter egg gift for the first 200 children. Follow the rock related treasure hunt to this special give-away.
Traditional attractions continue, door prizes every half hour, hands on demos, and guest speakers.
In addition there will be a Raffle with many exciting items, including your choice of a large crystal formation or fossil specimen.
There will be beautiful and informative rock, mineral and gem displays collected by local club members and guests from afar!
Attendees will be able to speak with rock hounds and purchase quality items from dealers from throughout the Western states who will have gems, crystals, beads, rocks, jewelry and fossils for sale as well as lapidary and jewelry making supplies.
