5-10K Trot the Pounds Away Or just wobble around Tropical Park November 27, 2008

Hallmark would have you believe Thanksgiving is about sitting around a table with the ones you love and showing how much you appreciate them, but our tummies tell us that it is the day to unabashedly throw down on a few plates stacked high with food. We love you, Uncle Pete, but yams, stuffing, and green beans, oh my! Yes indeed, this Thursday is for the grubbin,’ but your meal doesn’t have to be followed by the sleepin.’ You can get off your booty, join the Turkey Trot, and clear some of that belly space up for seconds.

Each year, the kind souls at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Florida give the tired, the slothful, and the greedy the chance to participate in a family run around Tropical Park that will burn off those mounds of mac ’n’ cheese yearning to travel to your thighs. This year is your chance to stop hearing about it and join in. The 10K will reverse the fattening effects of 780 calories; the 5K will, of course, do half that, but either way, you’ll be on the move. Registration starts at five bucks for kids, $20 for adults.

Packets will be available beginning Monday, November 17 - Wednesday, November 26 ONLY at Footworks (5724 Sunset Dr. S. Miami).

In-Person Registration
There will be in person registration at Footworks (5724 Sunset Dr. S. Miami) starting Monday, November 17, 2008.
Awards - 5K and 10K Runs - Top 3 Overall (Male & Female); Top Masters (Male & Female); Top 3 in each age division (Male & Female); Wheelchair - Top 3 Overall (Male & Female); Kids Race - ALL finishers receive a finisher's ribbon.
Age Divisions - The age divisions for the 5K are: 12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over for both Male and Female. - The age divisions for the 10K are: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over for both Male and Female. There is also a Wheelchair Division. - Kids Race: Ages 2 - 9.
Kids Race - The Kids race will include ages 2 through 9. Races will be run in the following order with the following distances:
2-3 years – 50 yards
4-5 years – 150 yards
6-7 years – 0.25 miles
8-9 years – 0.33 miles
All kid participants will receive a Kids race T-shirt.
T-Shirts
A commemorative T-shirt is guaranteed for the first 2,000 participants. Late registration not guaranteed correct sizes on race day.
