We can’t get enough of the amazing abstract paintings by German artist, Christiane Middendorf who exhibited at Art Works in 2010 but as she explains: “Art is never the same, it is always different”. You will realize this when looking at this new exhibit that she’s bringing to Art Works on FOURTH FRIDAY.

We have a special treat on opening night: a performance by the rva dance collective who will dance some of their new choreography with a backdrop of photography by David Parrish. Join us on February 24th, 7-10 p.m. for the FOURTH FRIDAY art show and reception. The exhibits continue through March 18, 2012. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking – just 1 block away from Art Works at 5th and Hull.
Christiane Middendorf Recent Works - Christiane Middendorf, born in Essen Germany, paints with expressionistic brushwork and each painting has a life of its own based on a personal experience of the artist. Yet the colors speak to each viewer and their personal experiences. She exhibits in New York, Pennsylvania, Canada, Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands. ABOUT FACE: AT EASE WITH PIXELS AND PAINTING Anne B. Burnley - Anne B. Burnley, retired military captures “fleeting moments” in her paintings and drawings. She is an expert photographer and painter, studied at VCU and has had an active career in art and the military. She juxtaposes these mediums and subject matter in her work. The exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery, West.
DIARIES OF A VACATION Gigi Brothers - What better relief from the winter season but a memoir of summer vacations? These small, exquisitely rendered paintings and drawings are framed in shadow boxes, giving the exhibit an air of treasured reminiscences.
HERE I AM Cheryl Clayton - Ms. Clayton is a long time resident artist at Art Works. Her studio 162, houses only some of her many mediums of artistic expression, including paintings, watercolors, prints, sculpture, fabric art and works on paper. As appropriately name, her show “Here I Am” provides insight into her life, thoughts and processes. The exhibit will be in the Skylight Gallery
FEBRUARY 2012 ALL MEDIA ART SHOW This exhibit is a focal point of all Art Works’ openings. It is a juried show with cash prizes and is open to all artists and all mediums. Call for Entries is on February 17th and 18th. The juror is Sarah Masters.
