ALLAN HOUSTON TAKES THE “FATHER KNOWS BEST” BASKETBALL RETREAT NATIONAL

Prepares For National Expansion

Monday, August 20, 2007, New York, NY – On Sunday, August 26, 2007, Allan Houston and his father Coach Wade Houston will host the 4th Annual Allan Houston “Father Knows Best” Basketball Retreat at the Riverbank State Park in Harlem, NY. The retreat is a faith-based event designed to strengthen father/son and mentor/mentee relationships.

Allan Houston and Coach Wade Houston are proving that fathers do know best. This year’s 4th Annual “Father Knows Best” Basketball Retreat will launch the first one-day session of a national series. Originally, the retreat was an annual event that occurred only in New York, but in just three short years, the success of the retreat has garnered national attention placing the program in high-demand. The Allan Houston Legacy Foundation intends to expand the program to other cities such as, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Georgia, and Louisville, Kentucky.

Recognizing the need for fathers to be their son’s role models rather than define themselves through the negative aspects of popular culture, The Allan Houston Legacy Foundation has created the “Father Knows Best” Basketball Retreat to offer better alternatives to the community and set a conscious example.

“The relationship between a father and son is so important – it’s no secret that our young men today need strong male figures whether it’s a grandfather, step-dad, neighbor, or mentor. We need our children to have solid foundations based on positive self-recognition and an empowered spiritual relationship,” emphasizes Allan Houston.

The vision of the program is to build meaningful and unique relationship between man and son or mentee. The attendees will participate in athletic clinics, panel discussions, and activities that encourage communication and life-skills with an emphasis on quality time spent together. Side by side, fathers and sons learn basketball drills, engage in relationship workshops, and perform as a team. Ben Gordon (leading scorer for the Chicago Bulls) and other special guests will participate in a panel discussion on a variety of issues affecting fathers and sons.

The Allan Houston Legacy Foundation have partnered with local and national organizations for the New York event. The Foundation is working closely with the Harlem YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club, and Riverbank State Park to nominate a select portion of father and son participants who will receive full-sponsorship to the retreat. In addition, the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation is proud to announce Sprint, Metropolitan Grapevine, and Toyota as the corporate sponsors for the 4th Annual Retreat in Harlem. The support from Corporate America allows the Foundation to continue to develop and produce uplifting programs that improve the quality of life for the community.
