Pécs, Pecs 7624

On behalf of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), the International and Local Organizing Committee, the Scientific Committee, and the University of Pécs Medical School we have the honour to invite you to the 3rd Conference of Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health in Europe, in Pécs, Hungary on 27-29 May 2010.

In our globalized world migration is a multifaceted and complex issue, which nowadays concerns every country in the World. An estimated more than 200 million people are living outside their country of origin. Europe as one of the most preferred target areas for migrants – economically benefits from this. On the other hand, Europe is struggling with the responsibility for providing conditions necessary for facilitating their integration and preventing possible societal and political side effects. Health (care)/ public health aspects should be considered as priority issues.

At the same time ethnic minorities living in Europe are frequently facing similar problems. That is why the EUPHA initiative on launching a regular, European level forum for bringing together researchers, academics, health and social care professionals and policy makers at EU and country level, is meant to enrich its 3rd Conference with aspects of ethnic minority health. We hope that the Conference will contribute to developing a shared view on values and principles, health needs and adequate responses.

We hope that the city of Pécs, European Cultural Capital in 2010 and its slogan: ‘City without borders’ will provide an inspiring and magnificent atmosphere for it.
