The Annual Chad Barth Concert for Epilepsy fundraiser is dedicated to and in honor of his sister Christina Ann Sauer and his cousin Ryan Blaess, both of whom suffer from severe versions of intractable seizure disorders.
Christina Ann Sauer is 21 years old and has suffered with seizures since she was six months old. Christina initially developed Infantile Spasms, which later developed into Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome is a severe form of epilepsy that has multiple forms of intractable seizure types with a severe mental delay as a result. Christinahas undergone three neurosurgeries over her life in an effort to correct or control her epileptic condition as well as many regiments of medication and diet treatments. Her seizures are still prevalent and have not subsided thus far andhave keptheratthe learning/cognitive level of an 18-month old.
Ryan Blaess is 5 years old and has beendiagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, also known as Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy (SMEI). This, too, is a severe intractable seizure disorder that results in a progressive childhood neurodevelopment disorder.
Thethird annual fundraiser will featurethree bands performing aboard the Odyssey III cruise ship (http://odysseycruises.com/dc/index.cfm). Headlining the event forthe second year in a row is Broken Bow Record artist Crossin Dixon (www.crossindixon.com) fromJackson, MS.
Mississippi-based Crossin Dixon formed in 2004, andhave been playing over 100 shows a year across the country. In late 2008 they released their first self-titled album, including hit singles Guitar Slinger', Make You Mine, and Old Bird Dog.
Crossin Dixon iscomprised of Jason Miller on lead vocals, Brandon Hyde on guitar and vocals, Charlie Grantham on guitar and vocals, and Michael Bole on drums. All four members of Crossin Dixon hail from Mississippi.
Joining Crossin Dixon for theevent will be The Wil Gravatt Band (www.wilgravatt.com). The band was formed from the ashes of The In Theory; Wil was the drummer and lead singer. Wil moved to guitar and frontman, and in 1998 the WGB was born. With a lineup of excellent DC-area musicians, he geared the new band toward a more honky tonk sound.
Opening the show again this year willbe Rebelicious (www.rebeliciousmusic.com). By successfully mixing classic-rock with modern country music, Rebelicious has created a fresh presence in the country music scene. Their first single, Be Strong, is gaining momentum on internet radio and is a fan favorite at their live performances. Be forwarned, they are not the typical cry in your beer country band.
