The 34th Annual Pflugerville Deutschen Pfest is all set for May 15-17 at Pfluger Park. Sponsored by the Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Department, Deutschen Pfest is Pflugerville’s premier weekend, showcasing the best in music, parades, food, arts and crafts and entertainment. All proceeds go towards enhancing the parks and trails in Pflugerville.

The Pfest kicks off on Friday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. with the carnival, live music and plenty of food, drinks and fun to go around until midnight. On Friday night, the main stage features live music by Larry Wilson and His Blue City Knights from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m. and Rotel and The Hot Tomatoes from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday morning, the children line up for the Children’s Parade at 11:00 a.m. Led by the winners of this year’s Deutschen Pfest coloring contest, the children will strut their stuff from Wordyisms and proceed down Main Street to set a fun-filled mood for the crowds. The main Deutschen Pfest Parade will follow directly after the Children’s Parade. Both Main Street and Railroad will be blocked off and no parking will be allowed during the parades. Local businesses, non-profit groups, school bands and many others will participate in the parade, which has grown from a three-block parade to one spanning most of the length of Railroad Avenue and onto Main Street.

After the parades, Pfluger Park will be hopping as crowds make their way into the park to enjoy all Deutschen Pfest has to offer. The opening ceremonies will be on the main stage at 12:30 p.m. The children’s entertainment section is another popular area of the park, where children can visit animals in the petting zoo, watch the puppet show and magic show and participate in a variety of games geared just for them. On Saturday night, the main music stage will feature the Bustamoovalators from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Dale Watson from 9:00 p.m. to midnight.
Sunday is a fun and relaxing day for those who attend the final day of the festival – beginning with the 30th Annual 5K Pfun Run and Walk and Kids 1K. The 5K starts at 8:00 a.m. and the Kids 1K starts at 9:00 a.m., both from the Pfluger Hall parking lot (Railroad and Pecan). Entry fees are $20 and include a t-shirt. The Pfun Run is followed by music in the park performed by Pflugerville’s own Pflaming Glory from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Carolyn Wonderland from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Pfest-goers can continue to enjoy the carnival, shop the booths and eat delicious food.

Parking is not permitted in the park. Free parking and shuttles are available at Pflugerville High School (1301 W. Pecan St.) and Brookhollow Elementary School (1200 N. Railroad). Both shuttles run from 4:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the Pflugerville High shuttle runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and the Brookhollow Elementary shuttle runs from noon to 12:30 a.m. (due to the parade). Both shuttles run from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $4 on Friday, $5 on Saturday and $4 on Sunday. Children 6 and under are free. Please leave your coolers, alcoholic beverages, pets, skateboards, and bikes at home – they cannot be brought into the Pfest.
Deutschen Pfest t-shirts are available for purchase at City Hall, the Recreation Center and the Pflugerville Pharmacy. Wearing your 2009 Deutschen Pfest t-shirt allows you free admission into the gates throughout the entire weekend.
