The SBS Youth Orchestra returns to Riverside Theatres with three brilliant works by composers that span across three centuries. The performance includes the work of Brahms, Stravinsky and Elena Kats- Chernin with the orchestra being conducted by Principal Horn Player of Sydney Symphony, Robert Johnson. Together they will perform at Riverside Theatres on Sunday 20 September at 3pm.

The programme will include Brahm’s Double Concerto for Violin and Cello composed in 1887, Stavinsky’s 1910 The Firebird Suite and Elena Kats-Chernin’s Excerpts from Wild Swans composed in 2004.

Robert Johnson will be the conductor for this exciting concert. Mr Johnson is the Principal Horn Player of the Sydney Symphony and has considerable experience including West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Perth Wind Quintet and Elizabethan Sydney Orchestra; teaches regularly at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Canberra School of Music; and works regularly with the Australia Ensemble and the Sydney Soloists.

The SBS Youth Orchestra was formed in 1988 by Russian-born conductor Matthew Krel with the help of the Special Broadcasting Service in Sydney. One of its unique aims is to give young musicians experience in performing for national broadcast on television and radio.
