Nelson Mandela said, “Make every home, every shack or rickety structure a center of learning.” This statement is one of the guiding tenets of the non-profit organization Orphans Against Aids (OAA) as it continues its quest to further the education of children impacted by HIV/AIDS in the world. In honor of this key mission, the second annual Orphans Against AIDS (OAA) Gala Fundraiser will be held in New York City, on Tuesday, May 8, from 7-10PM at Exit Art. This event celebrates the work of several exceptional projects that are putting words into action by bringing educational support to hundreds of orphans of AIDS around the world. All proceeds from the event will support educational and care programs for hundreds of orphans of AIDS in the highly-effective projects associated with OAA. The Gala fundraiser will be held in the iconic Exit Art Gallery and will feature wine, hors d’oeuvres, and an art auction of more than 60 works of art collected throughout South Africa. The collection includes works from well-known South African artists such as Clive Sithole, Welcome Danca, Isaac Sithole, and Clint Strydom, as well as up-and-coming artists such as Sibusiso Duma, and lesser-known rural crafters. Mediums include oil, clay, photographs, beading, and telephone wire, and starting bids will range from $50 to $2000.
