When FunkMnkyz coalesced from primordial ooze, to gelatinous glob, to a loose collective on the brink of musical fusion, the initial reaction was...confusion. "We all came from different backgrounds and had our own influences. When we started playing, there were so many things going on, but we all felt right about it." Once they developed their musical understanding with one another, FunkMnkyz hit the DMV live scene and fell in love with playing loud and raucous shows without taking themselves too seriously. Gradually, their strategy more refined, FunkMnkyz graced some of the biggest stages in their surrounding area.

This year, FunkMnkyz will continue to spread and release their first full-length album: Which Way is Down. They won't name drop the incredible bands they've played with, they won't claim to save hip hop or rock and roll, and they still won't take themselves too seriously.

In the winter of 2010, Jonathan, Peter, and Andrew found themselves in a room creating spontaneous sonic synergy with their instruments. Riding on an energetic high from a few impromptu performances, these "three amigos," if you will, decided to officially band together under the name "Carry the One". Months later, the trio decided to welcome Tim Rader back into the mix. Each member of the band hails from a different musical background: Jon in pop-punk; Peter in hip-hop and R&B; Andy in blues; Tim in metal. Despite their differences, the band strives to meld their wide range of influences into an aural amalgam any ear could accept. "Carry the One" marvels at the sound of unique rhythmic and tonic varieties and attempts to include something "different" and/or "interesting" in each of its creations. Carry the One combines various musical genres including, but not limited to: funk, metal, rock, hip-hop, R&B, jazz, progressive/math rock, reggae, pop-punk, and so on. They strive to create a live experience which is both energetic and entertaining.
