235 Years of Canada-USA Relations -- in an Hour! January 26, 2012

Roy Norton, Consul General of Canada in Detroit, will address recurring themes in relations between the U.S. and Canada -- countries sharing the world’s longest border and the world’s largest two-way trading relationship.

A strong, mutually beneficial relationship with the USA is Canada’s greatest foreign policy priority, one that Americans also regard as vitally important. Norton has also observed that economically, Michigan is Canada's most important geographic region -- more than anywhere else in the world. He adds that if Michigan were a country, it would be Canada’s fourth most important trade partner.

This promises to be an informative and entertaining evening, generously co-sponsored by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum and the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan.

As the Consul General of Canada based in Detroit, ROY NORTON represents Canada in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The Canadian Consulate General, which he heads, promotes Canadian interests - trade, investment, the environment, culture and academic relations being among the principal ones.
