Broadway Fantasies is pleased to announce its 22nd season production, Broadway Fantasies Goes to the Movies. Performing popular tunes that have made it to the big screen, Broadway Fantasies takes stage at John F. Kennedy High School, 500 Woods Mill Rd., June 11, 12, 18 and 19.
As St. Louis’ original song-and-dance revue featuring volunteer entertainers, Broadway Fantasies donates ticket proceeds to the County Older Resident Programs (CORP). Since its establishment in 1992 as a nonprofit corporation, Broadway Fantasies has raised more than $100,000 through ticket sales and playbook advertisements.
“The 2011 season promises to be one of our most exciting yet,” said Lee Baris, president of Broadway Fantasies. “We’ve put a lot of time and effort into selecting the most beloved tunes, like ‘Mrs. Robinson’ from The Graduate, ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ from Swing Time, ‘High Hopes’ from Come Blow Your Horn, and ‘Cool Cool Cool of the Evening’ from Here Comes the Groom. I hope we get all our audiences singing along.”
Broadway Fantasies performers range in age and experience, from talented amateur to professional, and from vocalist to dancer. Each year, volunteers are selected by audition for their stage skills and a shared love for philanthropy. Many prominent businesspeople in the St. Louis community, including Rose Terranova, CORP director, and Joe Dreyer, arranger and musical director, join the cast of Broadway Fantasies to showcase their special talents.
“The efforts of Broadway Fantasies to promote our mission of positive, active aging are inspiring,” Terranova said. “What could be better than getting an entertaining and often humorous performance while helping a great cause?”
CORP has been committed to an improved quality of life for older adults since its establishment in 1975. The program and its services are provided through the St. Louis County Office of Family and Community Services, a division of the Department of Human Services. Through a network of neighborhood-based volunteers, CORP seeks to meet the needs of older adults such as transportation, light housekeeping and legal assistance.
This year’s performance of Broadway Fantasies Goes to the Movies opens at 7:30 p.m. June 11 and continues at 2 p.m. June 12, 7:30 p.m. June 18 and 2 p.m. June 19 at John F. Kennedy High School, 500 Woods Mill Rd. Tickets are $17, with group rates available for parties of 15 or more. To purchase, please email [email protected], or call 314-615-4041 Monday through Friday.
