The Houston Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will host the 2010 Wildscapes Workshop & Native Plant Sale on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Houston Community College - West Loop Campus at 5601 West Loop South.

Entitled "Landscaping with Native Plants to Attract Wildlife", the workshop is scheduled from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm (registration begins at 8 am) and will include EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST, BOX LUNCH AND REFRESHMENTS,and a NATURE BOOK SALE (Matt Turner will be available to sign copies of his book "Remarkable Plants of Texas." DOORPRIZES will be awarded throughout the workshop. The NATIVE PLANT SALE will include many wonderful native plants that cannot be found in local nurseries. A landscape consultation by certified wildlife habitat consultant Joe Blanton of the Houston Arboretum will be the grand doorprize, to be announced at the end of the workshop.

Subjects and Speakers include: “FRIENDS IN THE GARDEN: Beneficial Pollinators, Toads, Frogs, Owls & More!” by Jaime González, Community Education Manager at the Katy Prairie Conservancy, “CONNECTING CHILDREN & NATURE: Are Tomorrow’s Conservation Leaders Connected to Nature?” by Teri MacArthur, Environmental Education Coordinator at Legacy Land Trust, “GREAT PLANTS FOR WILDSCAPES LANDSCAPES” by Mark Bowen, Executive Director of Urban Harvest and Author of “Habitat Gardening of Houston”, “LASAGNA LANDSCAPING FOR BIRDS & BUTTERFLIES” by Glenn Olsen, past president of NPSOT, Birding Guide and Instructor, “REMARKABLE PLANTS OF TEXAS” by Matt Warnock Turner, PhD., Author and Naturalist, and “MILKWEEDS & MONARCH WATCH STATIONS” by Flo Hannah, Senior Sanctuary Steward with the Houston Audubon Society, and Diana Foss, Urban Wildlife Biologist, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Dee Howell, City of Houston Parks & Recreation Department Horticulturalist, will emcee.
The associated plant sale will offer many hard to find, locally native plants. The sale will open at 11:30 am for workshop attendees and at 12:30 pm it will open to the public. A list of plants for sale will be posted on the website shortly before the workshop.

Cost: $30 per person, $25 NPSOT Members, Free Entry to the Plant Sale, come early (12:30 pm) for the best selection. RSVP for the workshop by Sept. 3. The workshop registration form is available at www.npsot.org\houston. Register now, space is limited.
