2009 Spirit of America Festival July 2, 2009

Decatur, Ala. – Decatur prides itself on the many free events held throughout the year and one of the largest is the Spirit of America Festival held annually at Point Mallard Park. Celebrating its 43rd anniversary in 2009, this Independence Day celebration promises fun for the entire family with its grand fireworks, daylong activities for children, live entertainment and more.
Set for July 3-4, the Spirit of America festival features the Miss Point Mallard Pageant, presentation of the Audie Murphy Patriotism Award and other freedom awards, family games, ongoing live music, children’s inflatable’s, food and crafts vendors and a huge fireworks display on the night of the fourth. Admission is free.
The Spirit of America Festival is one of the largest free Independence Day celebrations in the state. The crowning of the new Miss Point Mallard, a preliminary for the Miss America Scholarship Pageant, precedes the launching of one of the largest fireworks shows in North Alabama.
