In 2009 Senior Exhibition, the Creative Research Laboratory will present the work of Austin’s most exciting young emerging visual artists. Work chosen for the exhibition represents a full range of media, from painting to sculpture, prints, photographs, video, installation, and performance art.

Each year roughly 160 students graduate with a B.A. or B.F.A. from the Studio Art Division or a B.F.A. in Visual Arts Studies Division in the Department of Art and Art History. Both programs are among the most diverse in the country, with 390 students pursuing degrees in Studio Art (both B.A. and B.F.A. degrees) and Visual Art Studies. The curriculum stresses both hands-on technical development and fluency in contemporary visual art discourse.

Terri Thornton is an artist and the Curator of Education at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Her work has been included in exhibitions throughout Texas and in Louisiana and Oklahoma. Her most recent exhibitions include Exhibition #11 at and/or Gallery in Dallas, Cherry Picked: 2007 Survey of Texas Art and Artists at Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University, and Ether, a collaboration with Frances Colpitt, at Testsite, Fluent~Collaborative in Austin. She also spearheads the Tuesday Evenings series, which brings national and international artists, scholars, and critics to discuss their work each week at the Modern. Some key figures to participate have been Richard Prince, Carl Andre, Vito Acconci, and Robert Storr.
