The Peninsula's only home team, the Peninsula Pilots, play all of their home games at historic Peninsula War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Virginia. Since opening in 1948, the facility has seen Satchel Paige's last game, Barry Bonds' first game, six championships and has been home to baseball greats like Johnny Bench, Lou Pinella, Hal McCrae, Gary Carter, Julio Franco and budding superstar Ryan Zimmerman. In 2000, the aging ballpark began to experience a major renaissance designed to enhance the fan experience, including the construction of a new picnic area, a kid's zone, a new field lighting system, a box seating section, renovated restroom facilities and much more. In 2008 a brand new state-of-the-art video board, scoreboard and sound system were installed to revolutionalize the way fans enjoy the action. While much has changed at the stadium over the years, the values of family, community and affordability remain constant as the most prevalent aspects of the Pilots experience.
