For ONE show only!
And only Performance in Sydney!

Traveling 40 000km around Australia is no laughing matter that is unless you’re the 2009 Melbourne Comedy Festival. This year stand up comedians, musicians and anarchic but appealing characters are bringing the 2009 Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow to Riverside Theatres on Wednesday 10th June. This hilarious celebration of the Melbourne Comedy Festival is coming to Riverside Theatres exclusively for one show only.

Now in its 11th year, the Comedy Roadshow shares the Comedy Festival vibe with punters outside the Melbourne area code. It offers the very best of new, established, local and international talent. Many perform extracts from their shows in the Comedy Festival with work ranging from stand-up comedy to musical and sketch comedy. The 2009 line-up includes Kitty Flanagan who has performed around the world, musical trio The Axis of Awesome, Australia’s youngest international comedian Daniel Townes, Barry Award Nominee Denise Scott and multi-award winner Dave Thornton as MC.

Dave Thornton is known for accessible humour with a free flowing style. Dave Thornton has performed nationally in comedy venues, corporate events, universities and on a variety of TV comedy spots including Network Ten’s Rove and Good News Week, ABC’s Bed of Roses and the Comedy Channel’s Melbourne Cup Special Stand-up Australia. He is currently hosting live chat show Studio A on Channel 31 produced by Ged Wood (Spicks and Specks).

Following her success on Full Frontal, Kitty Flanagan moved to London to perform at London Comedy Store as well as some of the smaller clubs around London. Kitty Flanagan has toured to Japan, France, Germany and Holland and has performed at Comedy Festivals in Edinburgh, Kilkenny and Cape Town.

Daniel Townes, Australia’s youngest international comedian, started his career in 2003 and has emerged as one of the hottest comedy prospects. Daniel Townes has had success in Singapore, Germany, Spain, Ireland, South Africa, Canada, Holland, and all over the UK including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A regular at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Cracker Comedy Festival he has appeared on the Channel Nine’s NRL Footy Show and the Comedy Channel’s Cracker Comedy Festival Gala.

Denise Scott has been traveling the comedy circuit since the early 80s. Ranging from stand up to radio she draws her material from personal stories and topical observations. She was nominated for the Barry Award for Best Show for her sold out Melbourne Comedy Festival hit, Scotty and Son, which featured her nineteen year-old son. Scott received a second nomination the following year for Denise Scott Gives Good Council. Denise Scott hit the road in 2008, playing a core part in the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow, touring to regional towns throughout Australia and Singapore.

Rising Australian musical comedy trio, The Axis of Awesome has appeared on Channel Nine’s The Footy Show, Channel Ten’s Good News Week and featured on Triple M and Nova Radio. In 2008, The Axis of Awesome received Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Moosehead Award for their show, The Axis of Awesome Comeback Spectacular. This show successfully toured to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008.

The Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow is a rare delight. Five entertaining comedians, two and a half hours of laughter, and one rather individual interpretative dance, and you have a good night out.
