The Pittsburgh Technology Council's Art and Technology Initiative invites you to join us for the opening of the 2009 Annual Art and Technology Exhibition and the BurghBot Project. To celebrate the synergy that exists between the art and tech communities in Pittsburgh, the Council is partnering with the James Gallery and CREATE Lab to create this one-of-a-kind exhibition. The show opens at the 15 Minutes Gallery on June 18, 2009 and run throughout the summer.

EXHIBITION DETAILS:

ARTWORK: The 2009 Art and Technology Exhibition features more than 50 pieces of artwork in all media, by 37 regional artists throughout the summer. Juried by Paul Cicozi of the James Gallery, the Pittsburgh Technology Council and CREATE Lab, the James Gallery will host the award winning artists in a winner’s exhibition this fall.

THE BURGHBOT PROJECT: The first ever event of its kind, The BurghBot project showcases the robotic artwork of ten East Coast artists, operating at a true intersection of art and technology. Each artist has created a unique interactive, artistic adaptation of CREATE Lab’s robotic frameworks (seen in a previous life as Robot 250). The BurghBot project is on display at the 15 Minutes Gallery through July 18, 2009. The James Gallery will also host the “Best Bot” during it’s winner’s exhibition this fall.

Art Energy Design’s Power Flower: Pittsburgh’s first 12’ tall kinetic sculpture will be on display outside the Pittsburgh Technology Council building. As part of the Council’s Art + Technology Initiative, Artist David Edwards and collaborators created this one-of-a-kind work that artfully incorporates wind, solar and water-use technologies.

Etcetera Edutainment’s Crowdplay: Play the world's first commercial "crowd-gaming" system! CrowdPlay® turns ordinary groups of people into giant joysticks, as audience members work together to collectively control the game. As the group moves in their seats, the direction of their motion is translated into game input, letting them control the action on the screen in front of them. It is a gaming experience unlike any other.

Locally Toned: One of the first recipients of deeplocal’s Artist-in-Residence program, Teresa Foley is on hand to showcase Locally Toned -- a venture that involves Pittsburghers in the creation of original ringtones, then provides the free tones to the public via a website and distribution. This public art project utilizes the airspace as public property for purposes of sonic transmission.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers’ Film on the 15’s: Each quarter of the hour, Pittsburgh Filmmakers presents a screening of Andrew Batista’s Piano Story. Set in 1960, this short film recounts the tale of a young piano player who finds the girl of his dreams. Andrew Batista, a graduate of Pittsburgh Filmmakers, produced and directed "Piano Story" this year.
