Aspiring authors and accomplished writers alike are invited to the 2008 DuBois-Chesnutt Writing Institute in Idlewild, Mich., on Aug. 2. The event is conducted in tandem with the annual Idlewild Jazz Festival. Daylong writing workshops (from 1- 7:30 p.m.) feature bestselling author Elizabeth Atkins (White Chocolate, Dark Secret and Twilight (penned with Billy Dee Williams) delivering keynote remarks to open the event. Other sessions cover writing Romantica®, using poetry principles to strengthen prose, self-publishing and book marketing. Workshop presenters will close the afternoon session with a look at thoughts on “The Right to Make My Dreams Come True.” The day ends with the spoken word stylings of Antwidamala “Justice” Umbiya and open mic poetry.
