About the Exhibition:
A common pine two-by-four is the basic element of carpentry. When joined together with other two-by-fours, it can become part of something grander, providing the supporting framework in the construction of a home. At HAUS, a home in its own right, each individual in the artist couples presented in 2 x 4 has joined with his or her partner to build something grander, a life together. In each of these four artistic dyads, however, it is not one but two structures—two distinct artistic practices—that are supported through unity, mutual cooperation, interdependence, and, at the same time, deep respect for each partner’s individuality. Hewing to the mathematical equation, 2 x 4 = 8 artists who have distinctly different approaches to making art.

About HAUS:
HAUS is a unique space for the exhibition and viewing of contemporary visual art. This alternative gallery is owned and operated by two artists active in the southern California art scene. For the visitor, HAUS exhibits - in a charming 1925 home in Pasadena, California - contemporary visual art that has been selected for its quality and lack of exposure. For emerging visual artists, HAUS offers an opportunity for a solo exhibition of their work. Although artwork will be offered for sale, the primary focus of the gallery is to present innovative contemporary art.
