BISHOP ARTS DISTRICT FREERANGE ART COMPETITION

The Bishop Arts District Merchant Association, in conjunction with ArtSpirit Dallas, is pleased to announce the First Annual Bishop Arts District Free Range Art Competition on Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28, 2007.

This two-day competition will showcase local area landmarks and points of interest as the subject matter of participating artists. Using any medium on canvas, entrants will devote Saturday to painting their chosen subjects on materials provided by BADMA. An exhibition, jury, and auction of all artwork will be held subsequently on Sunday.

Artists Creating Their Works

Prizes will be awarded in both adult and juvenile divisions by a panel of prestigious judges. The majority of the proceeds of the auctioned items will be retained by the respective artist, with fractional shares going to area historic preservation efforts and District improvements.

Exhibition, Jury, and Auction

The purposes of the project are threefold:

1. To celebrate and promote Dallas in general and Oak Cliff in particular as a magnet for both creators and appreciators of art.
2. To solidify the reputation of the Bishop Arts District as an artist friendly environment in which to live and work.

3. To generate funds for historical preservation projects and other worthy causes in the Bishop Arts District/Oak Cliff.
