1881 Celebration! August 20, 2011

In 1881, the world’s best players gathered in Newport for the first U.S. National Lawn
Tennis Championships – the tournament that evolved to today’s US Open. In celebration
of the 130th anniversary of the event that inspired a nation’s passion for tennis, the
International Tennis Hall of Fame will host a celebration, complete with a re-enactment
of that first championship on the original courts, along with fun activities for guests.
