During the Centennial Year of 1876, Philadelphia was host to a celebration of 100 years of American progress. The Exhibition introduced the nation as a new world power, and showcased the city as a center of American industry and culture. Many of the financial, political and industrial leaders of this era later made Laurel Hill their final resting place.
