16th Annual Sickle Cell Walk-A-Thon March 7, 2009

The Sickle Cell Disease Association of West Alabama will host its 16th Annual Sickle Cell Walk-A-Thon on Saturday March 7, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on the walking track at Bowers Park-Minnie Sellers Pavilion at Bowers Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
All community, civic, social, college, religious, business and corporate groups are challenged to support this worthy cause and to receive a FREE screening for sickle cell disease.
Contact the office at (205) 758-1761 for pre-registration information. ON-SITE REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY at 8:00 a.m. Prizes and trophies will be awarded. Community agencies and resources will be on-site in the Community Room at the Belk Center with information on housing, employment, legal issues, health and nutrition. Free Food and soft drinks will be served during the post walk reception.

The Sickle Cell Disease Association of West Alabama is a non-profit charitable Alabama corporation exempt from federal taxation under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Management and control over the affairs of the corporation are vested in a board of directors. Organized in 1985 to serve the citizens of five (5) West Alabama Counties, the agency seeks to (1) work toward improving the health status of affected persons, (2) increase community awareness, (3) alleviate the impact on family resources resulting from having a chid born with sickle cell disease, and (4) aid in research.
