Established in 1999, by Founder and Artistic Director Micaya, The SF Hip Hop DanceFest has grown to be THE event that has put San Francisco on the map for presenting hip hop dance . Acknowledged as the FIRST festival dedicated specifically to honoring the artistry of hip hop dance, the DanceFest is a groundbreaking event, hosting companies from all over the globe.

The San Francisco Hip Hop DanceFest remains unique for its dedication to presenting the highest quality professional Hip Hop dance companies and for its forward-thinking curatorial focus. This legendary event offers professional Hip Hop dance companies the level of production, exposure, and acknowledgement that they urgently deserve, nurturing emerging artists and consistently contributing to the evolution of both Hip Hop and dance. With a record of ten years of sold-out performances, the DanceFest has developed a reputation for both quality and innovation.

"THE BEST OF DANCE IN 2008 - San Francisco Hip Hop DanceFest 10th Anniversary: Festival founder and producer Micaya kept the party rolling with popping, locking and b-boy tricks from around the world - and on roller skates! Special shout-out to the funky, noodle-limbed members of Oakland's Diamond/Sparkle crews."
- Rachel Howard, San Francisco Chronicle

"If the kids in your neighborhood are trading their pointe shoes for high tops, or abandoning tutus for Tupac, or jettisoning tiaras for hoodies, perhaps Micaya is to blame. The single-named choreographer last weekend produced the 10th anniversary of her San Francisco Hip Hop DanceFest at the Palace of Fine Arts, and at the opening Friday evening (Nov. 21), the full audience and voluble audience response suggested that there may be one kind of dance attraction that remains impervious to a recession. When crowds linger in a lobby after a show, you know you've got a hit."
- Allan Ulrich, Voice of Dance

"It takes a festival like Micaya's to show us - and challenge us to reconsider - just how diverse, amorphous and all-embracing hip hop can now be."
- Rachel Howard, San Francisco Chronicle

"The exuberance bouncing off the walls of the Palace of Fine Arts at the Nov. 22 opening of the 10th annual San Francisco Hip Hop DanceFest probably kept the audience in a buoyant mood well beyond the theater. These young dancers - and hip-hop is still primarily a young person's art - presented a show that was sassy, skilled, and a hoot to boot."
- Rita Felciano, SF Bay Guardian
