11TH ANNUAL MURDER BALLADS BASH

$8 - $15 sliding scale.

The nights get longer and hearts grow colder. Strains of murder, misery, death and despair waft on the chilly, autumn air. Put on your costume, grab your friends (beloved or unbeloved) and come hang with us for an evening of murder most musical as our talented crop of tormented souls treat you to eerie serenades at the Murder Ballads Bash. An Eastbay tradition since 2002.

This year's killer acts are (in order of appearance):

The 3 SOULBIRDS (www.facebook.com/The3Soulbirds) usually bring out soulful, sweet ‘n’ sassy harmony and stuff with strings, but this night promises to be 2/3 sassy with 1/3 sweet missing. MOKAI (www.mokaimusic.com) accompanies himself on fingerstyle guitar, playing earthy original music. He tells gripping stories, rhymes freely, and through his songs, he melds the strange and beautiful into rootsy performances. DANNY ALLEN & THE PRETTY MONSTERS (www.dannyallenmusic.com) are a rootsy, rock band from the unique world of all things Danny. Whether she’s singing sweet sounding tales of liquor and despair or toe tapping ditties of revenge and loss, VAL ESWAY (www.staggeringsiren.com) will surely disarm you with her soulful siren sounds. For over 15 years the geezer punks of un-pop music, The HAPPY CLAMS (www.thehappyclams.com), have been bringing you raw rock’n’roll with personality. American singer-songwriter and Western Independent recording artist MAURICE TANI OF 77 EL DEORA (www.77eldeora.com) has been making appearances with his ensemble, 77 El Deora, at The Plough for over a decade. He will distill his usual one hour set down to 15 minutes of rarely performed original songs dealing with several variations on the evening's featured theme. The EARL BUTTERS play country-ish music and have somebody who plays pedal-steel to prove it. LUTHER MONDAY & KARRY WALKER combine their individual styles into a duo that smacks of murderously bent, acousticky rock and soul. The FLAMING TELEPATHS (www.flamingtelepathsband.com) are a rock trio in the San Francisco Bay area creating a buzz tearing up the music of Blue Öyster Cult. The Telepaths emphasize the improvisational side of BOC, stretching out the jams... GUY MICHEL will present his distinct autoharp styling’s on one of today’s popular, darker tunes. ORANGE JEWS has played with Eskimo and Ebola Soup, and with lots of other folks including The Billy Nayer Show, Herb, Beth Custer, Idiot Flesh, Casino Royale, whomever came down the pike. Enough said about that.
