Distinguished Canadian Annual Address

On Tuesday, October 7, the Honourable Dr. John Hamm, Co-Chair of Democracy 250, will deliver the 10th Distinguished Canadian Annual Address -- “The Development of Democracy in Canada” -- at 2:00 p.m. in the John Joseph Moakley Center for Technological Applications at Bridgewater State College. A reception will follow.

The Democracy 250 initiative has been established to recognize Nova Scotia’s pioneering role in shaping the evolution of democracy in Canada, and to generate a greater appreciation of the value and importance of democracy’s influence on the lives of Canadians and the nation’s prosperity.

Born and raised in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, John Hamm left the medical profession to serve his community as the MLA for Pictou Centre in 1993. Dr. Hamm was sworn in as Nova Scotia’s 25th Premier on August 2, 1999, a position he held until he stepped down as Premier and Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party in February 2006.
In addition to his current duties as co-chair of Democracy 250, Dr. Hamm is the chair of the Board of Governors, University of King’s College, as well as chair of Assisted Human Reproduction Canada. He is also a member of the National Early Childhood Development Board.

The Distinguished Canadian Annual Address is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Susan Williams in the Canadian Studies Program at Bridgewater State College. Email [email protected] or telephone 508-531-2421.
