Elks Opera House Turns 104 Years Young in 2009

The Elks Opera House in Prescott, AZ turns 104 in the coming year, so mark your calendars for our birthday bash, Saturday, February 21, 2009. Because of the generosity of the Mitzie James Family Trust gift of $1 million for restoration, this will be your last chance to celebrate the anniversary in the ‘old’ theater. The 105th anniversary in 2010 will take place in a beautifully restored ‘house’.

But at this remarkable turning point The Elks Opera House Foundation is celebrating the 104th with a Salute to the Old West including dinner at the historic Palace Restaurant on Whiskey Row and a special appearance of the Prescott Regulators and their Shady Ladies. Enjoy the great food and the western ambience of The Palace which make it a must stop in downtown Prescott.

Following dinner take the trolley to The Historic Elks Opera House to see that SCANDALOUS 1943 movie, THE OUTLAW, (or another Classic Western film) provided by our own Cable One and starring Jane Russell. After the movie there will be a Ladies’ Raffle Drawing for a beautiful Gift Basket designed by Foundation board member, Marilyn ‘Dinny’ Henze and a Men’s Raffle Drawing for a custom made gun belt and holster by craftsman Don Dillahunty. The evening ends with Dessert and Coffee in the theater lobby followed by a trolley ride back to the Courthouse Plaza or Granite Street Garage. Only $40 per person or $75 per couple will ensure an evening of delicious food and great entertainment. Reserve your seats now by picking up a reservation request at the Elks Opera House box office (see hours below), The Palace Restaurant, The Chamber of Commerce or by calling Maxine Dillahunty at 928 778 5236. Dinner begins at 5 pm and the movie at 7:30 pm. Western duds not required of course, but feel free to costume yourself if it suits your fancy.

Don’t miss this fun filled evening of entertainment and fine food. Come say goodbye to the ‘old girl’ as she prepares for the facelift of a several lifetimes beginning in July, 2009.

And if you can’t come to the dinner, be sure to catch the movie. It’s free to the first 300 people who pick up tickets at the Elks Opera House box office Tues. – Fri. 10 to 1, beginning Feb. 10. Or come by the box office, Feb. 21, Saturday 10 am to 1 pm or at 7 pm. Donations are always gratefully accepted.
