1 In 3 Art Exhibit – Women’s History Month

In Honor of the One in Every Three Women Who is Subjected to Violence

In Celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, Amnesty International Group 35 and Works San José art gallery have teamed up with local and international artists to tell the stories of women facing and overcoming violence worldwide.

Opening night is Saturday, March 14, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Works San José, 451 South 1st Street, San Jose, CA. Guest speakers include media activist Ann Simonton, once a top fashion model and now an international authority on exposing the media role in reinforcing violence against women. Simonton has appeared on Dr. Phil, Oprah, Larry King Live, Entertainment Tonight and CNN's Crossfire and a variety of other media.

Also featured on opening night will be Elsie De Laere, who will discuss her role as an Amnesty International specialist on violence against women in Afghanistan. Artist Angel Daniels, will also make an appearance to discuss art as a medium for creating awareness about violence towards women. Guest musician for the event is Marilee Buster. Tickets will be available at the door for a minimum donation of $10.

Admittance to the exhibit is free March 15 – March 21. Co-sponsors include Cardea Center for Women, San Jose Peace and Justice Center, Kavosh Women's Organization and the Santa Clara County Council of Churches.
