San Francisco's music scene will receive a rare treat in the form of a special live performance by Brooklyn, New York-based rock band, Youngman Grand, who are popping up at the Bottom of the Hill. The performance surrounds the imminent release of the band’s first full-length album, “Stop/Start."

The trio, whose music is best described as Northwest-bred, British-influenced, Brooklyn-inflected rock, is currently on their 2012 West Coast Summer Tour

Youngman Grand will be joined by Ava Luna and That Ghost.

ABOUT:
Youngman Grand derives its name from Ringo Starr's character by the same name, “Youngman Grand”, in the 1969 British comedy, “The Magic Christian”. Youngman Grand’s frontman, Daniel Sparks, identified with Starr’s character in the film, who was lost before being adopted by Peter Sellers' character, Guy Grand.
 
In 2009, shortly after arriving at his adopted home of Brooklyn, from his previous stopping point of Portland, Oregon, the pieces of Sparks’ musical career started to fall into fortuitous place. He was almost immediately joined by drummer Mike Fadem (Kevin Devine, The Jealous Girlfriends), and guitarist Elliot Rayman. Together, they began to create Sparks’ dream musical project: A complete collaboration of like-minded people and more importantly, friends.
 
The trio, whose music is best described as Northwest-bred, British-influenced, Brooklyn-inflected rock, started performing in the Brooklyn area environs, quickly catching the attention of Grammy-winning producer Charlie Dos Santos (Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, They Might Be Giants, Digital Underground, Eddy Grant, Peter Noone and Phil Ramone, Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo of Buena Vista Social Club, Los Van Van), who had been a regular at the Manhattan coffee shop at which Sparks and Rayman were then-employed.
 
Over the next year, during Sparks’ and Fadem's sabbatical from touring with Brooklyn songwriter Kevin Devine, they made “Stop/Start”, Youngman Grand's first full-length album. The album, which features guest performances from friends Peter Holmström (The Dandy Warhols) and Mike Strandberg (Kevin Devine, Brian Bonz), is the culmination of the journey Sparks began when he left his family’s dairy farm in southern Idaho to join the music ranks of Portland, which led to his final leap across the country, landing him in Brooklyn.

“Stop/Start” will be available for sale at the July 24 show in San Francisco, preceding its official August 1, 2012 release date.
