Xiu Xiu (pronounced "shoo-shoo") is an experimental band originally from and currently based in San Jose, California, with time often spent in Seattle, Washington. The band is the sonic brainchild of singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart, who has also been its only constant member since its inception. Xiu Xiu currently tours as a full band and performs mostly recent music by Stewart. Stewarts early work has leaned towards noisier/industrial music but the past several albums use more rock instrumentation to realize his dramatic and volatile compositions. Stewarts vocal stylings are as unique as the songs he writes, his voice quivers and shake. He often times sound like David Byrne being frightened by a ghost. Touring with Xiu Xiu is one of the US most popular and influential noisemakers, Prurient. Prurient is the project of Dominick Fernow who is known for creating some of the harshest noise today as well as running the prestigous avant garde label and record store, Hospital Records.
