XIth International Colloquium on Roman Provincial Art “Rome and the Provinces: models and difussion”

The International Colloquiums on Roman Provincial Art have become an excellent vehicle for scientific projection and dissemination among the international community.

During the 10th International Colloquium on Roman Provincial Art, held in France in May 2007, the National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida was proposed as the venue for the 11th Colloquium. This will be the first time an International Congress on Roman Provincial Art has been held on the Iberian Peninsula.

Thus, between the 18th and the 21st of May 2009, the city of Mérida will host the 11th Colloquium on Roman Provincial Art, under the title of “Rome and the Provinces: Models and Diffusion”. The event will be organised by the National Museum of Roman Art (MNAR) and the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC).

The Colloquium will include visits to the archaeological site of Augusta Emerita and the National Museum of Roman Art. In addition, on the 23rd and 24th of May optional excursions will be organised to archaeological sites in the vicinity of Mérida that are of unique interest in the Romanisation of the Iberian Peninsula.
