April 24 to April 25, 2010, 9:30am to 5:30 pm both days

This seminar focuses on writing as a form of meditational therapy. Many of us have gaps, blanks and pieces of memories locked within our subconscious. Oftentimes these memories remain inaccessible to us because of mental or emotional blocks, caused by trauma or disappointment. Through a gentle, guided probing into these long forgotten or emotionally difficult events or episodes in our lives, a more complete story of ourselves begins to be revealed to us as we channel them through writing. Writing as meditation provides you with your own inner map and tools to dive below the surface into the vast ocean of your mind to discover the hidden pearls that lie beneath. In a state of natural spontaneity, free of distraction, we train in being free of any holding back. Buddhists say that ultimately you are your own guru. "Be ye a lamp unto yourselves." Writing is the medium of the message.

Objectives:

Through a variety of guided visualization exercises that develop our sensory powers of concentration and self-awareness, we learn to use our own inner wisdom to process our past and answer our own questions.

2. Writing in community provides the support, compassion and witnessing that writing alone does not provide. Sharing our stories validates them and frees us from their grip on us.

3. Finding your voice by exploring creative narrative, through a variety of forms, memoir, poetry and dramatic dialogue, gives form to substance.

4. Utilizing writing as a form of meditation is a spiritual practice and tool for self-healing that cuts through the ego and develops our intuition and inner wisdom.
