YIVO INSTITUTE presents:

New Episodes from the Hit Israeli Series
DID HERZL REALLY SAY THAT?
Featuring Israel – Our Home? & We Will Return – Eventually
American Premiere

What does it mean to be an Israeli? Who and what defines Israeli identity? Do an Israeli-born Jewish doctor living in America and Russian-born immigrant living in Israel have the same sense of “Israeliness”?
Oren Harman and Yanay Ofran, two 30-something Jerusalemites now living in Tel Aviv, embarked on a deeply personal journey across Israel and abroad asking hard-hitting questions that explore the boundaries of identity within Israeli society. What are the old and new identities? How is the current, often tumultuously changing, process of identity formation affecting that group and society at large? What are the social, political and religious implications? What does this process mean for today’s and tomorrow's Israel?
Following the screening of the first two episodes in the series to a sold-out house in April 2007, YIVO is proud to present the American premiere of the latest films from the series, Did Herzl Really Say That? In We Will Return – Eventually we meet Israelis living in America; in Israel – Our Home? Russian immigrants living in Israel. Join the filmmakers in the post-screening conversation with Zvi Gitelman, professor of political science and Judaic studies, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Reception with light refreshments to follow.
