Celebrate our ocean planet and learn simple ways you can make a difference during Mystic Aquarium’s World Oceans Day on Saturday, June 5.

With assistance from the Association of Zoos & Aquariums and The Ocean Project, this year’s celebration honors the 50th anniversary of Dr. Seuss’ “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” book. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids will receive activity booklets related to the book, can participate in an ocean-themed spelling bee and will receive special prizes, such as bookmarks, pins or fake tattoos.

Kids can also get their faces painted, color their very own fish crown and make an estuary in a bottle, which contains oil, water, food coloring and plastic fish to show how estuaries are formed. Adults will learn about rain collection barrels and ways to halt the flow of pollutants to Long Island Sound during EnviroScape demonstrations. Aquarium staff will also share conservation-minded home improvement ideas and ways water can be reused and conserved.
