Workshop for dancers on preventing dance injuries

Organised in collaboration with Vani Madhav (Bangalore Odissi Dance Centre), Sharmila Mukerjee (Sanjali Centre for Odissi Dance) and Sai Venkatesh (Sai Art International).

Date: Saturday 6th September from 11am to 4pm and Sunday 7th September from 10am to 4pm 2008.
Venue: Seva Sadan,14th Cross, West Park Road, Opposite MLA College, Malleswaram, Bangalore.

Dr Kannan Pugazhendi has been invited to Bangalore for a workshop specially designed for dancers of all dance styles on the prevention of dance injuries. During the workshop, Dr Kannan Pugazhendi will teach dancers corrective and preventive exercises, as well as rehabilitation exercises which address the most common injuries afflicting dancers, including:

• Neck problems
• Shoulder and wrist pain
• Back and buttock complaints
• Groin pain
• Thigh strain
• Knee pain, knee cap dislocation and early or traumatic arthritis
• Calf and heel pain
• Knee/ankle ligament sprains

Dr Kannan Pugazhendi is a Sports Medicine Consultant who heads the SPARRC Institute (Sport Performance Assessment Rehabilitation Research Counselling Institute) in Chennai. He graduated with a Masters in Sports Medicine from The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He has treated dancers of several dance styles and conducted prevention workshops to dancers and institutes across India.

Dance Critic Ashish Mohan Khokar is invited as chief guest to inaugurate the workshop.
Inauguration time is at 11am on Saturday 6 September.
