Featuring: Filomena Danisi and Marty McConnell
Filomena Danisi will be reading from "Battling Through Life: The Story of Filomena Danisi", an inspiring, funny and painful record of the trials her family faced with an insidious and progressive neurological disease. The book takes a square look at a determined Italian immigrant family, a flawed U.S. medical system, and Filomena's resolve to make her life count. Marty McConnell releases poems that huddle between the world we travel and the one we battle to create, stretching words over bone and boundary, hoping to break it all down and build it up new. Women's Poetry Jam is hosted by Vittoria Repetto, the hardest working guinea butch dyke poet in the lower east side. Open mike sign-up starts at 7PM, so come and deliver (up to) 8 minutes of your poetry, prose, songs, and spoken word.
