Women Who Lead: Illinois, Greece and Worldwide March 8, 2012

In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, the National Hellenic Museum hosts nationally known author and Illinois State University professor Linda L. Lyman, Ph.D., presenting “Women Who Lead: Illinois, Greece and Worldwide.”

Dr. Lyman has taught women’s leadership in American culture at Aristotle University in Greece and has also conducted research on Greek women school principals. Her scholarship and publications, including three previous books, focus on leadership with an emphasis on issues of caring, gender, poverty, women and social justice.

She received a Partners in Peace in Education award from the Center for Prevention of Abuse. The award is for teaching that encourages educators to bridge boundaries and promote social justice. In 2005, Dr. Lyman was in Greece at Aristotle University as a Fulbright Scholar to teach about women’s leadership and conduct research on outstanding Greek women educational leaders. Since 2007 she has been an invited scholar in an international research group, Women Leading Education Across the Continents (WLE). This group of 50 scholars, representing 25 countries, is the first ongoing international research collaborative focused on women’s leadership in education.
