Women in Consulting (WIC) San Francisco Meeting

New Rules: Marketing in the New Economy

Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 5:30 – 7:30 pm PST

Early online registration closes Monday, October 26, 2009, 12 Noon

The rules have changed, the tools have changed, the economic situation keeps changing. It's hard to know how to invest your attention, time, and money in order to attract new business, sustain relationships with existing clients and market segments, and keep your sanity. No one knows when or whether things will settle down, so it's important to have good ways of deciding what to try, what to stop doing, what to emphasize in your marketing efforts.

WIC SF's October 28 meeting features panelists who have successfully adapted and innovated their consulting practices over the last two years. They'll talk about what changed in their markets, how they decided to respond, and how they have prospered in the midst of change and uncertainty.
Alison Hotchkiss is a destination wedding planner who started her business, Alison Events, nearly seven years ago. Since then, she has been featured in nearly every wedding magazine and has published a book with Chronicle Books. But, being part of the travel/tourism luxury business, she has had to look for creative ways to prevent her business from being impacted by the economy while quickly adapting to the new social media tools for ongoing marketing. She'll share her stories -- from publishing a book to Tweeting during event set-up – and will talk through the process she used to create a new offer tailored to the struggling travel/tourism industry. **Alison will offer a free initial wedding consultation to attendees**
Jennifer Benz is an employee benefits and HR communications consultant and runs a boutique firm, Benz Communications. Since starting her business 3 years ago, she has grown a national reputation and brand through a combination of traditional PR, social media marketing, and nurturing existing relationships. In that time, she has published dozens of articles and blog posts, been quoted in most industry press, and presented in conferences, podcasts and webinars. She’ll share her successes (and missteps)—including her tips for branding, Twitter, and how to woo your clients with chocolate.
Ravit Lichtenberg works with businesses and individuals on social media, customer experience, product development, and branding strategies in the new digital economy. After 15 years of experience, and having tasted the startup and corporate worlds, she started Ustrategy. Over the past year she has become a sought-after author and speaker in the area of social media branding and online trends. Ravit has recently launched a new initiative focusing on providing women in business with personal tools and strategies for success. **Ravit will offer a one-hour social media and personal branding coaching session to attendees**
WIC San Francisco's theme for 2009 is Learning from and with each other. Bring your questions, your ideas, plenty of business cards, and your desire to learn and to share your knowledge.
