Making the connection between what urban children eat and the source of their food, sustainability advocates and nutrition educators Mollie Katzen, Kelsey Seigel, and Karen Heisler talk about how to foster the next generation of environmental stewards.

Mollie Katzen is the best-selling author of numerous cookbooks, including The Moosewood Cookbook and The Enchanted Broccoli Forest, charter member of the Harvard School of Public Health Nutrition Roundtable, inductee to the James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame, and inaugural honoree of the Natural Health Hall of Fame.

Karen Heisler is a Sustainability Advocate and Educator, and Co-Director of the Pie Ranch, a working farm dedicated to inspiring urban youth to transform their relationships to food, and to work with their communities in building healthier local food systems.

Kelsey Siegel is a Sustainability Educator and Consultant, and former long-time General Manager of the Edible Schoolyard which provides urban public school students with a one-acre organic garden and a kitchen classroom.

Windrush School is proud to welcome these advocates for healthy and sustainable food for youth. The Windrush School Farm Stand project, an innovative partnership between local organic farmers and the Windrush School Parent Association. The Windrush School Farm Stand provides fresh fruits and vegetables to school families, supports sustainably harvested food, offers community service opportunities for middle school students, and raises funds for the non-profit independent school.

Celebrating 30 years of providing a progressive academic education, Windrush School is known for its dedicated teachers, welcoming, diverse community, and a student body of intellectually curious, environmentally aware, caring and capable kids. A new environmentally designed, LEED-certified classroom building will open in 2008, allowing the K-8 school to grow from its current size of 260 students up to 330 future leaders.
